The best mental health diagnosis on the Internet

May 13, 2009 – 16:11

Today we launched the fourth version of Mindsite, led by the heroic efforts of engineering and product leads Matt Kenison and Joshua Walker.  Safely, we can say that our site is currently the best mental health self diagnostic system available anywhere on the Internet, built through collaboration with some of the leading academic psychiatrists and psychologist in the world. The term "diagnosis" in mental health is a loaded concept fraught with many semantic, cultural, and heuristic associations.  The fact that Mindsite resolves our diagnoses based on the DSM-IV criteria will be controversial to some, and perhaps rightly so, but the fact remains that this system is the dominant framework used to discuss common problems like depression and anxiety in western medicine.  There are a number of different ways to look at the mind - different ways to describe the human experience - and we continue work to support different diagnostic frameworks such as the WHO's ICD system, additional languages, and other useful features.  We recognize that the DSM-IV is part of the conversation about your mind, but not the final word.

In v4 you will find that we continue to offer our free and anonymous diagnostic assessment, which provides a summary of your mental health across 24 mental health conditions.  Importantly, we have significantly enhanced the personalization and reporting capabilities of the system.  If you elect to purchase our premium report, you get a detailed and objective report of your life experiences viewed through the high-resolution lense of the DSM-IV.  The premium report is a whopping 37 pages long if you print it out, packed with plenty of high impact information all specific to your personal mental health.  If you are unahappy with the report for any reason, we will provide you with a prompt and full refund.
