Bulimia
Bulimia is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating followed by
inappropriate compensatory methods to prevent weight gain. Symptoms of
bulimia include:
- Discrete periods of food consumption in amounts that are definitely larger than most individuals would eat under similar circumstances (binge eating)
- Feelings of shame and attempts to conceal eating problems
- Disparaging self-criticism and depressed mood following eating binges
- Recurrent use of compensatory behaviors such as purging, fasting, or excessive exercise to prevent weight gain
