Panic disorder
Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder characterized by the presence of
recurrent, unexpected panic attacks followed by a persistent concern about
having another panic attack. A panic attack is defined as period of
intense fear or discomfort in the absence of real danger that is
accompanied by a combination of the following reactions:
- Palpitations, sweating, trembling or shaking
- Shortness of breath or feelings of choking
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Nausea
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Fear of losing control or "going crazy"
- Fear of dying
- Chills or hot flushes
