Social phobia
Social phobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by a persistent and unreasonable fear of social or performance situations in which embarrassment may occur. Symptoms of social phobia include:
- Avoidance of social or performance situations
- Fear of public speaking or conversation
- Avoidance of eating, drinking, or writing in public
- Anxious reactions in response to feared social situations such as tremors, sweating, muscle tension, blushing, or confusion
- Concerns that others will judge the individual as anxious, weak, "crazy," or stupid
