Specific phobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by persistent and unreasonable fear of specific objects or situations such as flying, heights, animals, receiving an injection, or seeing blood. Symptoms of specific phobia include:
- Excessive or unreasonable fear when in the presence of, or when anticipating an encounter with, a specific object or situation
- Intense anxiety or distress in response to exposure to feared objects or situations
- Persistent avoidance of feared objects or situations
